Data Model

Orion Connect

The core Orion Connect data model was designed around the original purposes of the Orion platform for portfolio management and performance reporting. This data model still provides the fundamental model that the various Orion platforms map or configure to. Each data object in Orion has a unique ID used both for identification and for associated to a related data object.

This summary will not be exhaustive but will focus on the core data objects. Additional details and clarification can be provided upon request.

Firm: The customer’s organization, whose data is organized into a specific database with a unique Firm ID. A customer may have multiple databases and thus multiple firms and Firm IDs.

Representative: An individual advisor or may represent a joint or group of Advisors. This object includes personal contact information for the representative, including internal and custodian identifiers and custom fields.

Household: An individual investor or group of individuals composed of spouses and/or children. This object includes personal contact information and custom fields, and can be grouped to outside accounts for reporting purposes. A household must be assigned to a Representative and may contain one more registrations.

Registration: An entity representing the individual account owner, the account type, and/or the original custodial account organized into sleeves. A registration may contain one or more accounts.

Sleeve: A portion or bucket of a custodial account assigned to a model/strategy directed towards a specific goal for a client.

Account: A financial account reflecting details including the custodian, the billing structure associated to the account, and various custom fields. An account may contain one or more assets.

Portfolio Group: A custom grouping of accounts within a household that can be shown in reports and the Orion Client Portal. They are useful for grouping similar kinds of accounts in the Household that are in different registrations. Portfolio Groups can also be used for trading and performance purposes, however they cannot be used for billing. Sleeved accounts may be placed into portfolio groups just like any other account in Orion.

Asset: The individual holdings of the investment account. An asset is directly related to a product and may contain one or more transactions

Transaction: The activity within an investment account, grouped by and associated to the holding (asset), including all cash flows, contributions, distributions, trades, dividends and interest.

Product: This object represents the actual security owned by the client, related to the investment account through the asset.

Product Category/Class: A grouping of similar investment vehicles.

Price: Cost per share of a security or product.

Model: The target allocation for an investment account.

Aggregate Model: A weighted model is composed of percentages of various models. A weighted model can be 100% of a single standard model. In Orion, Aggregate Models are assigned to accounts rather than simple models.

User: An individual person with access to the Orion platform.
